Our Vision Statement

It is the vision of the Sharon Hill Police Department to provide the most professional and effective law enforcement services to the citizens of Sharon Hill. These services shall be provided by a professional work force that is accountable to the citizens and accomplished by balancing the needs of the community with the resources available. We are committed not to be satisfied with the status quo and will implement creative and innovative solutions to the law enforcement function. Our goal is to serve with pride, professionalism, and integrity and to improve the quality of life.

The Sharon Hill Police Department, fully staffed and operational 24 hours a day, year round, is located in the heart of the Borough on Spring Street.

The department employs 18 sworn officers including a Chief, Sergeant, Detective, Juvenile Officer and one full time administrative assistant. The staff is supplemented by civilian turnkeys, matrons and crossing guards.

Sharon Hill officers are highly trained with many receiving specialized education to better serve the residents. Our Officers conduct educational programs in our schools along with safety tips and seminars for Borough organizations and businesses. The bike unit supports our patrol officers in the parks and business areas throughout the Borough and our accident investigative expert is available when needed.

Chief Joseph J. Kelly, Jr. - The chief started his career in law enforcement with the borough as a patrolman in 1976. In 1980 he was assigned the position of Juvenile Officer. His duties included the investigation of juvenile crimes along with the educational programs conducted in the schools. He was promoted to the rank of Chief in 1993. The Chief is the top administrative officer in the police department.

Chief Kelly graduated from Mercy Hurst College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice.


Sgt. Robert Tinsley - Sgt.Tinsley came to the police department in 1983 after a teaching career. Bob taught in the Southeast Delco School District for a number of years. Sgt. Tinsley is the Juvenile Officer for the department. His duties include the investigation of all juvenile crimes. Bob is a past member of the County Emergency Response Team. Sgt. Tinsley attended Ithaca College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. He was appointed sargeant in March, 2007.  As Sgt, he assists the Chief with administrative duties.


Detective John Hoffner -Detective Hoffner came to the police department in 1981 as a patrolman. Prior to working for Sharon Hill, John was a patrolman for the Borough of Morton. In 1999 John was promoted to the rank of detective. His primary duty is to handle all criminal investigations. John is also the Systems Manager for the computer network in the department and assists the chief with administrative duties. Det. Hoffner holds an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Delaware County Community College and also attended the FBI National Academy.

Officer George Faulkner - Officer Faulkner was hired in 1988. George's duties include the upkeep of our records management program and vehicle maintenance program. George is also an accident investigative expert and will continue his education to be certified as an accident reconstruction expert. He is also the current president of the Sharon Hill Fire Co. George also assists with criminal investigations when needed.

Officer Michael Attix - Officer Attix was hired by the Sharon Hill Police Department in 1991. Mike is a member of the Delaware County Response Team and the Major Incident Response Team.  Mike is an active member of the Sharon Hill Fire Company, having served previously as the Fire Chief. 

Officer Anthony Buckland - Officer Buckland was hired in 1994 as a part-time patrolman and was promoted to full-time in March, 2007.  Officer Buckland has been the fire arm instructor for the department since 1996 after being certified by the PA State Police.  Officer Buckland is a graduate of Sharon Hill High School.  After graduation, Tony enlisted in the US Air Force, where he specialized in military law enforcement.

Officer Brian Devaney - Officer Devaney was hired as a part-time officer in March, 2003. He was appointed full-time in August, 2005. Brian graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and is a member of the Emergency Response Team.


Officer Jonathan Zebley - Officer Jonathan Zebley was hired in September of 2001. Jonathan handles a steady shift and fills in as needed. He is also a member of the bike patrol. 

Officer Stephen Mummo - Officer Mummo was hired as a patrolman in 1988. Steve covers a steady shift for the Borough and fills in when needed.  Steve also works for the 911 Emergency Center as a dispatcher. Steve is also a member of the bike unit.  Officer Mummo holds an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Delaware County Community College.

Officer Joseph Ahern - Officer Ahern started with the police department in 1996. Joe is a member of the bike unit and covers a shift. Joe works full-time for Villanova University Security.  Officer Ahern is currently enrolled at Villanova University working on his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice.

Officer Christopher Huganir - Officer Huganir was hire in May, 2006 and will work a steady patrol shift. Chris is employed full time by the Chester County Sheriff's Dept.

Officer Richard Herron - Officer Herron was hired in 2007 as a part-time Officer and promoted to full-time in 2008.  Officer Herron came to Sharon Hill with a wealth of experience.  Rich has worked in law enforcement since 1996 and previously was employed as a Narcotic Agent for the Office of the Attorney General of PA.  Officer Herron is a graduate of Ridley High School and obtained an associate degree from Delaware County Community college in Criminal Justice. 

Officer Joseph Patton - Officer Patton is in his second time around as a part-time officer for the Borough of Sharon Hill.  Joe grew up in Sharon Hill attending Holy Spirit Grade School and attended high school at Msg. Bonner, graduating in 1994.  In 1996, Officer Patton graduated from the Delaware County Police Academy and started working part-time for the Sharon Hill Police Department.  Joe works full time as a police officer for the Southeast Delco School District.

Officer Vincent Port - Officer Port was hired as a part-time officer in 2008.  He is a graduate of Msg. Bonner High School and continued his eduation at the Delaware County Police Academy and graduated in 2007.  Officer Port will work a steady shift and is a member of the bike unit.

Officer John Scanlan, III - Officer Scanlan was hired as a part-time officer in 2008.  Officer Scanlan was born and raised in Sharon Hill, attending Sharon Hill Elementary and Academy Park High School.  John graduated from Academy Park in 1997.  He continued his education at Lycoming College, graduating in 2001 with a degree in Crinimal Justice.  Officer Scanlan works full-time as a juvenile probation officer for Delaware County.  He graduated from the Delaware County Police Academy in 2007.

Officer James Fiore - Officer Fiore was hired as a part-time officer in 2008.  Jim graduated from Academy Park High School and continued his education at West Chester University.  Officer Fiore graduated in 2005 from West Chester University with a degree in Policital Science and Criminal Justice.  In December 2007, he graduated from the Delaware County Police Academy.

Officer Renee Richetti - Officer was hired as a part-time officer in 2008 after graduating from the Delaware County Police Academy.  Renee graduated from Archbishop Prendergast High School in 1992 and continued her education at the Chubb Institute where she received a certificate in Computer Tech Support.  Officer Richetti is also a member of the bike unit.


Administrative Assistant Donna Tate - Donna came to our police department in February, 2005. Donna handles all of our police logs, correspondence, scheduling of crossing guards and in general all clerical work for the department.
